The below information was included in a construction letter mailed to adjacent properties.
Project Details – Proposed Work
Grading: The City of Madison will be regrading a portion of the public stormwater outlot behind 528-548 Burnt Sienna Drive to reduce flooding. This project will grade a small ditch, install two equalizer pipes, and create a downstream overflow for large storm events. This channel will be reseeded with native prairie seed once construction is complete.
Construction equipment will be in the area throughout the duration of the construction and limited to areas defined by construction fencing.
A portion of the bike path will be reconstructed to accommodate the larger storm structures and create a downstream overflow.
Storm Sewer: Construction will also include repairing and installing storm sewer, including:
- Installing (1) upstream catch basin to collect sediment from the street prior to entering the greenway.
- Upsizing existing storm sewers under the bike path.
Construction Schedule & Impacts
Construction Schedule: Work is tentatively scheduled to begin in late September 2026 and be completed by the end of November 2026.
Storm Sewer: The existing public storm sewer will be upsized. If you aware of any private storm sewer or connections from your property, please contact the project manager listed.
Traffic Impacts: No streets will be closed, although there may be temporary or partial street closures for the construction of the storm sewer.
Bike Path Impacts: The path from White Fox Lane, traveling south may be closed as needed to facilitate construction. The inter-block path connecting Burnt Sienna Dr to N Sugar Maple Ln will be closed during construction.
Bus pads and Metro Transit Operations: No metro transit operations or bus pads will be installed within the projects.
Terrace Areas: Areas between the sidewalk and curb (terrace) shall be restored with topsoil, erosion mat, and grass seed.
Water Shut-offs: There are no planned water shut-offs.
Sanitary Sewer: There are no impacts to sanitary sewer.

Project Overview
This project improves drainage within the 528-548 Burnt Sienna Drive. These improvements include
- Replacing the 18" storm pipe with a swale, which has a larger volume capacity.
- Adding to twin 18" pipes under the existing path to convey the 100-year storm event.
- Lowering the existing bike path to accommodate stormwater in events greater than the 100-year storm event.
There are Spectrum telecommunication and Alliant electric utilities that may need to be lowered during construction. Notification to customers from these utilities is not handled by the city.

August 13, 2026 Update
This contract has been awarded to Drax, Inc. Construction is anticipated to start in fall.
